Eric Ravillious Boy Bird’s Nesting Woodcut Frame: 9” x 10.5” Image: 4” x 6” Boy Bird’s Nesting was first exhibited in an edition of 15 copies priced one guinea in 1927 at the Eighth Annual Exhibition of the Society of Wood Engravers. This edition was printed on Basingwerk Parchment at the Shenval Press in 1951 Eric William Ravilious (22 July 1903 – 2 September 1942) was a British painter, designer, book illustrator and wood-engraver. Ravilious engraved more than 400 illustrations and drew over forty lithographic designs for books and publications during his lifetime. His woodcut of two Victorian gentlemen playing cricket has appeared on the front cover of every edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack since 1938.His style of wood-engraving was greatly influenced by that of Thomas Bewick, whom both he and Bawden admired.
